Grace Lutheran Church of Lily Lake was organized in 1894, by immigrant farmers who migrated to the United States from Sweden. The cornerstone was laid September 16, 1894, and the building was ready for dedication with a Thanksgiving Service that November. In 1894 the membership was 71.
Today, Grace has passed our 125th anniversary. The original church was a quaint white wooden structure. In 1960, the little frame church was replaced by the present modern style brick church.
The worship life at Grace is varied and is open to trying different things. Grace participates in a community Thanksgiving Eve service planned by an ecumenical group of local churches. Grace offers an abundance of ministries in which individuals may participate: Chancel Choir; an individualized confirmation program; Grace Roadrunners (a yearly trip); Vacation Bible School; Rebecca Circle for women; and, special events such as Oktoberfest, Easter breakfast, and numerous potluck dinners, many of which include game nights. Members of Grace also support community programs such as Adopt-a-Highway, the Pottawatomie Habitat for Humanity Partnership, Prayer Shawl Ministry, the Elburn Food Pantry, Northern Illinois Food Bank, and many Thrivent Financial events including Feed My Starving Children as well as various financial workshops throughout the year.
